Our spine consists of small vertebrae (bones) in proximity. These vertebrae are cushioned by discs located in between vertebra to maintain shapes. The discs are round and in the shape of a small pillow. They have a tough exterior (annulus) to protect the nucleus. Also, the discs are responsible for absorbing shock to safeguard spinal bones.
Due to an accident, inflammation, or for some other reason, the disc is damaged i.e., slipped, ruptured, or bulged, the condition is called a herniated disc. Now, the disc isn’t protecting the annulus and gets displaced to the spinal canal, which is tightly packed.
Now, the displaced disc is pressing on the spinal nerves, producing pain, which is unbearable for many. Herniated discs can occur in any part of our spine and it is a common cause of pain in our lower back. Hence, if you feel any spinal back, go visit a pain management physician. Herniated Discs needs to be diagnosed before it gets worse.
